Principal's Message
The Academy is proud of its enduring legacy as the oldest, Catholic, independent, college preparatory high school for young women in the state of New Jersey, founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. We are mission-driven institution and even now, as we celebrate our 160th anniversary, we remain focused on the core values on which our school was founded: charity, community, justice, service, and educational excellence.
We are thrilled to be in person this academic school year. Although we faced some programming challenges due to the COVID-19 crisis, 2020-21 has been an enriching and uplifting year, as we work to best meet the needs of our young women academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.
Please take the time you need to get to know us better. Browse our website, follow us on social media, and reach out to our administration and staff. Admissions will look very different in 2020-21 than it has in the past, so if you are beginning the high school selection process, please peruse our admissions pages. I especially encourage you to view our Virtual Open House. We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2025 to the Panther Family!

Elizabeth Lee McGovern (born July 18, 1961) is an American film, television, and theater actress, and musician. She received an Academy Award nomination for her role as Evelyn Nesbit in the 1981 film Ragtime.She is also known for her performance as Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham, in the British drama series Downton Abbey, for which she has been nominated for an Emmy Award and Golden. Abstract
This thesis examines Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun and Purple Hibiscus in order to explore the implications of trauma on middleclass Igbo women's gender performance. The traumas that the women encounter within the novels occur within the domestic sphere and are results of the Biafran War in Half of a Yellow Sun and domestic abuse in Purple Hibiscus. This thesis interrogates women's experiences within the domestic sphere, ultimately reflecting a larger national trauma that Biafra and later Nigeria undergo as a result of colonial occupation. This thesis concludes with an exploration of the culturally specific practice of orality and storytelling that occurs within both novels that ultimately initiates the healing process for the individual, as well as the nation.
